Half-day bike tour north of Chiang Mai |
Code: CNX-CLHN
Departure at 08:30 am
Overview
This tour will show you the beautiful area north of Chiang Mai. The route is of course chosen so that we have much contact with the local Thai people. This bike tour is suitable for cyclists with a normal condition and who are confident to ride in a little traffic. Remember that this is not a mountain bike tour but a leisure cyclig trip that will introduce you to the fascinating area north of Chiang Mai.
Itinerary
After a short briefing we start the bike tour from your hotel or another place in the city that we agreed upon. Bypassing the traffic is an adventure in itself. We ride through lanes and streets, some of which are inaccessible for cars, and once outside the city, we follow the Ping River upstream, heading north. The landscape is very varied with beautiful views of the mountains of Doi Suthep and Doi Pui. Via country roads we cycle to a reservoir called Huai Thungtao. You will appreciate the 24 gears on the bikes at this stage since some minor height needs to be climbed. The Huai Thungtao reservoir is part of a royal project and is known by the locals as a recreation place at the weekend. While enjoying the peace of the area, we eat a light lunch. We cycle through the grounds of the "700 Year Stadium" and a little further, we visit Wat Chet Yot, a 600 year old temple with a unique architectural style. Finally, we cycle a well planned route back to town. The traffic is probably slightly busier than in the morning, but this is not a problem, because now our bicycle proves truly to be "part of the solution".
