Itinerary
Day before the trip: Meeting around 6 pm at your hotel.
Day 1:About 45 km flat (L, D).
After a short safety briefing, we cycle down narrow lanes through some of Chiang Mai’s interesting neighborhoods, past beautiful houses and through areas rarely seen by tourists. Once we leave Chiang Mai behind us we will cycle on country roads through beautiful ever changing scenery. You will see orchards, rice fields, irrigation canals, pass through small villages and witness the farmer’s daily life activities. We ride towards the reservoir and pass a Chinese cemetery. We glimpse tantalizing views of a temple on top of a hill. We will visit this beautiful temple, which is also an important social centre and school for the area. After a visit to the local market we continue through small villages and paddy fields. Your first accommodation is a small boutique resort with a nice swimming pool. Great food (Malaysian, Thai, Singaporean and Western) is being served by the very friendly hosts while you enjoy the lush, natural surroundings.
Day 2: About 42 km, 10 km gently rolling (B, L, D).
Today’s cycling will give us further insight into the Thai way of life. We will continue to cycle through rice fields, orchards, and small villages. Along the way will visit some local hot springs, caves and an interesting, quite unique temple. Part of the route has some rolling hills but that won't bother us too much because we have great bikes with 24 gears. Today’s accommodation is a small lodge in a local village. It has only a couple nicely decorated rooms available. The lodge has a nice swimming pool with bar where excellent cocktails are served. The restaurant has a very good choice of delicious Thai food. Thai massage is available.
Day 3:About 52 km, mainly flat (B-L).
Today will be the longest ride of the tour. Once more we ride the alternative roads and pass by paddy fields and local villages. The scenery of today is again completely different. We pass a large standing Buddha protruding from the flat countryside. We are approaching Chiang Mai but before, we will visit a former leper colony, located in a remarkable leafy area. This over 100 year old institute is now being used as a rehabilitation center and residential are for the elderly. A visit to the ancient ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, the former site of Chiang Mai, rounds off the day. You will be looking back with pleasure at the highlights of this adventurous cycling tour.
